Brief Description:  tail wheel

This sole image is the swivell portion of the tail wheel part. I dont know why I did not take more pictures while I was building, but maybe it the same reason why I am doing 2-3 months of updating here! I would really rather build that take pictures, but they are necessary too.

This piece was kind of neat to fabricate because I felt the angle on the bolt relative to the tail titanium rode and the wheel to the ground has a lot to do with the hight speed stability of the wheel assembly. I did take great pains to make sure it was exact per the plans, and it is spot on.

The 'U" bracket is somewhat difficult to form with just a bench vise and a torch. What I did was to mount two bolts vertically on the jaws of the vice, staggered about 1/2 inch. this provided me with an area I could slip the heated metal into and just pull it around to form the two legs of the 'U'. this did work fine, but needed a little tweak afterwardes as the two sides were not precicely parrellel and were exhibiting a small bit of relative to each other twist. Not bad enough to remake.

The second larger 'U" section that holds onto the actual wheel was made the same way and came out a bit better, butwas just one washer or so wide. Adding a couple of thin washers wont change anything, and maybe prefurable. I shall see.
