Brief Description:  Dihedral Leveling

Essential to attaching the struts is leveling the fuselage from side-to-side as well as determining a 2-29/32 inch dihedral for both wings. As described elsewhere, red food coloring and detergent were added to the tubing. Initially I just hooked the 1/2 inch ID tubing to the wing tips, but every time I raised or lowered the wing to adjust the dihedral, that would change the fluid height in the tube, which would require adjusting the tube height to reset it so that the meniscus aligned with the wing root. Finally, I attached the tube to a post mounted to a ladder which meant adjusting the height simply moved the wing, but not the fluid level, making it much simpler. If I had to do it over again, I'd buy another 10 feet of tube so that the fuselage leveling could be checked independently of the wing dihedral.
