Brief Description:  Landing Light 1

I decided to proceed with 2 inch halogen taxi and landing lights. I'm going to use a 100W 12 deg spot for the landing light and a 75 watt 24 deg flood for the taxi light. I chose nose bowl mounting so as to minimize weight and to avoid cutting the wing. I made a three-ply inner mold of the nose bowl where the landing light will go, and used the mating surface as a mold for the Lexan landing light lens. The oven temperature required was 320 deg, about 70 deg higher than the plexiglas skylights. I made four of the 1/8 inch thick landing light lenses, One was really good, and one was terrible. The other two will be kept as spares. The mold was then trimmed to be a retaining ring, or backing plate for the lens. I filled in the tape grooves from the mold, and also made a blue foam landing light housing mold, which I epoxied 4-ply thick and then set aside to harden. Once I sanded the retaining ring, I epoxied it to the nosebowl.
