Brief Description: Fuel Tank Mounting and Nipples 1
I remounted the right wing main and aux fuel tanks. Every time I remove and reinstall the tanks, they end up in a different position, despite leaving the top straps in the same position. Since I've already cut-out the filler neck hole, that's a constraint that has to be met. I used a small C-clamp to keep the filler necks centered in the holes. I had to enlarge the holes (again), so that no possibility of rubbing will occur. I used brass nipples to extend the fittings away from the rib to minimize the hole size. Caterpillar grommets seem to be the best way to protect against chaffing.
Main tank inflow from aux fuel pump.
Main tank fuel vent.
Key to centering the tank (once youve drilled the filler hole).
