Brief Description:  Fuel Tank Mounting 2

I undertook the task of mounting the right main tank. I estimated the strap length by holding the straps up to where they would mount with the tank theoretically shimmed into position with the tensioners out to length but threads engaged. I then drilled the holes and kept a 2.5 center-edge distance to the end. This worked out well for the bottom straps, but the top straps had to be cut and drilled one center-edge shorter, as they were too loose. What seemed to work best was to push the bottom straps into the corners and then set the tank in place, tightening the upper straps down into the bottom straps, and then tightening up the bottom straps to get the proper tension. Despite my best efforts, the predrilled fuel filler neck and drain plug holes would not both fit. I then decided to make the fuel filler neck hole take priority over the drain plug hole, which resulted in about a 1/4 inch offset from center for the drain plug. The business about putting a couple washers on the stiffeners to bring the tank up and shimming it into place didn't seem to do much, as the tank ended up riding higher than the two washers would have it do. I'll probably make a new bottom panel which is centered. On the other tanks, I won't cut out the fuel filler neck and drain plug until I have the tank mounted. After mounting the tank, I removed it and the straps for painting and cementing of the rubber fuel tank anti-chaffing.
