Brief Description:  Toe-In Correction

I obtained a new right landing gear from Mark Goldberg, which was going to allow me to avoid trying to heat the axle enough to release the axle reinforcment tube Loctite, and tyryng to slap-hammer the tube out. I decided to go ahead and modify the gear for oversize tires since I needed to refabric the gear anyway. I cut off the lower bent steel piece using a cut-off tool, and bent the 3/8 inch tube just below the standoff and then welded it to the aft gear strut. In addition, it was necessary to drill the cotter pin holes for the axle nut, weld an additional tab to secure the brake hose, and apply the fairings, and mark the gear for drilling and applying nutplates, which was then done. Once the right gear was in place, there was now .9 inches of toe-in on the right and 0.75 inches on the left. I then went through the process of heating the aft axle on both sides and I was able to correct both the left and the right wheels to 0.5 inches, slightly more than recommended in BearTracks. I also reinforced the right axle. I then traveled the gear 20 feet, and achieved a total of 0.75 inches of tread spread, within the 1 inches alllowed by Mr. Barrows.
