Brief Description:  ELT Installation

I installed an Ameri-King 406 MHz ELT with GPS position option, as it was on sale from the company. I used nutplates to secure the main transmitter unit mounting plate, and riveted a longitudinal stiffener as the panel wouldn't meet the stiffness parameter called out by the install manual otherwise, namely .1 inches deflection for 100 lbs load. I was waiting for the ACK 406 MHz ELT, but it's quite a bit more complicated install, and requires a fused power lead back to the ELT whereas the Ameri-King only uses battery power. I used Super-Shield, a nickel-based conductive spray, to make the required ground plane. I shortened the lead required on the ELT buzzer, and urethane epoxied the buzzer to the "T-adapter" to give a relatively compact installation. Finally, I made a couple of plates with 4-40 nutserts to facilitate removing and reinstalling the Remote unit for battery replacement. The Remote unit battery is due for replacement in Oct 2015 and the Main ELT unit batteries are due for replacement by Feb 2016. The installation and functional test outlined in the manual was performed IAW 91.207(d) and ELT functioned normally.
