Brief Description: Magnetometer Installation and Wiring
I installed Crossbow magetometers on both wings onto the previously placed mounts, which are modifications of the Safe-Air1 Dynon remote compass mounts. The Advanced Flight Systems manual calls out < 0.2 deg difference between the panel units and the magnetometers; I used a small digital inclinometer zeroed out on the panel units for the pitch and roll measurements, and adjusted the brackets so that zero was achieved at the magnetometer units. Nonmagnetic stainless screws and washers from the Safe-Air1 kit were used to mount the bracket, after first achieving pitch and roll zero. Cleco's were used to provisionally fix the magnetometers to the bracket, as I need to order some brass screws and nuts from McMaster's ( I thought they were included with the Advanced Flight Systems unit, but they were not). Finally, I wired up the D-sub connectors, and left enough line for a service loop.
