Brief Description:  Left Aileron

I went through the process of positioning the left aileron. Unfortunately, whereas on the right aileron there was more or less adequate positioning of the hinge bracket on the spar and the underlying .063 inch doubler, on the left wing, the hinge upper holes would have been through the edge of doubler on the other side of the spar. In my opinion, the way the plans are, there is not any wiggle room for adjusting up and down on hinge height on the spar, as the hinges of both the flaps and ailerons are the same height as the doubler, and the plans only specify .25 inch center-edge distance on the doubler, whereas 2D center-edge distance is more standard, and should be 2 x 3/16 = 3/8 in this case. I called Mark Goldberg about this dilemma, and he said that he had already addressed this issue with Bob Barrows with another builder and that given the low loads on the upper bolt, the lessened center-edge distance could be tolerated, or another hole could be drilled 1/2 inch or so lower. I chose the latter course. and drilled new upper holes on the flap and aileron hinges. I went ahead and drilled the aileron support bearings, and mounted the aileron.
