Brief Description: Zig Zag Front Seat Try
|
|
I tried to use Zig Zag springs as done by other builders, but it just didn't seem satisfactory. To use the Zig Zag springs, holes are drilled in the seat tubing, the springs have to be cut and the cut end bent backwards while heating with a torch. If not done just right, the springs twist when under load and disconnect themselves. If the bend is not done under heat just right, the metal is fragile and easily breaks. Plus, the springs are heavy. I couldn't use exactly the same method as the rear seats, as the seat sliding mechanism doesn't allow wrapping the strips around. I decided to give up on this idea, removed the springs, welded closed the holes and reprimed and painted the seats. I'll go with double riveted wider straps which aren't pre-tensioned, which should ultimately be lighter and more reliable than the Zig Zag springs.
