Brief Description:  More Stringer Work

I broke down and ordered full length stringers (12 foot) from ACS, rather than go with the spliced ones. Even so, the bottom two stringers probably need to be about 12.5 feet, which would allow the stringers to rise above the fabric level in the tailcone. Rather than splice in another 6 inches, I came up with the idea to flatten out the stringer at the tail end, and taper it up 30 degrees, which involves less weight and less work (splicing, that is). I used a vise and rubber pads and compressed the last inch of the stringers. I cut all the stringers to length, and am about 3/4 done with drilling the holes for the sheet metal screws which secure them. A 90 or 45 degree angle drill seems to work best for this. Next, I'll finish drilling and run the screws in. Then I'll Alodine the stringers and epoxy prime them, which is a task I'm not looking forward to.
