Brief Description:  Infrared Camera 1

I've wanted to install an infrared camera, but the price has been daunting. Forward Vision sells one for $15,000, for example. Blue Mountain Avionics offered one for $9,000 a couple years ago, but they went out of business. Running through the internet, I discovered that Flir is selling an experimental aircraft version for $2,500. The URL is:

http://www.flir.com/cvs/americas/en/aviation/products/evsx/

I decided to go ahead and order it, as it provides a significant safety improvement for night ops at an unimproved airport, such as mine. Accordingly, I used the specification drawing to design a fairing, made a male plug out of blue foam, covered same with electricians tape and applied wax release agent, and covered it with 3 layers of fiberglass cloth and epoxy. After drying, I removed the plug and trimmed it to fit.
