Brief Description:  Aux Fuel Tank Cutout and Access Panel 2

After installing the fuel tank sender and tank ground lug, the fuel tank was no longer capable of being installed from under the wing. It was accordingly necessary to cut out a relief area, which in turn required a right angle stiffener to compensate for the loss of rib integrity. In addition, an access panel is needed in order to work on the fuel vent fitting, magnetometer and fuel sender wiring. Way back, I'd bought four panels from an Ebay vendor called "AIRDOC". They were quite nice and were epoxy primed, but set up for standard, not flush, 10-32 screws. I decided to remove the anchor nuts, drill out the holes to 5/16 inch and countersink them, allowing flush screws to be used, once I re-riveted the anchor nuts in place. I used a Dremel-type cutoff tool to cu tout the hole, and smoothed it with a 3.5 rotary sander chucked in an air drill. After Alodining and priming the right angle stiffener and dimpling the wing skin, I riveted the stiffener and doubler in place. I made up duplicates to be used on the other wing, too.
