Brief Description:  GPS Puck Magnet Removal

I bought an auxiliary GPS unit for my Advanced Flight Systems AF-3400. It apparently is a car unit from Garmin, and comes with 4 relatively powerful discrete magnets in its base, probably for mounting on car sheet metal. Since there's only about 18 inches between its desired location and the magnetic compass, I thought it woudl be a good idea to remove the magnets. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any way to disassemble the unit. So, I came upon the idea to use an 3/8 inch end cutter. I centered the endcutter on each magnet, which are visible as indentations on the GPS base, and milled down to them. It worked better than expected as once the cutter came upon each magnet, the magnet stuck to the bit with a click and was easily extracted. The four lightening holes thus created should help keep the weight down, too!
