Brief Description:  Flight To Oshkosh

The culmination of all this homebuilding is the penultimate trip to Oshkosh. It's tricky to get the time off, but I was able to do it. Kevin Perkins and I lifted off at 0830 Sunday AM, and trundled towards our destination. Our original fuel stop was Marshall Regional in Missouri, but a thunderstorm was parked there. We deviated to Columbia Regional (KCOU), fueled up and deviated west to Waterloo Regional (KALO), dodging a flock of thunderstorms; tanked up again and then proceeded to West Bend, WI (KETB). All in all 1 hour solid IMC; it turns out the front of the door leaks. I ordered some neoprene "C" seals to correct that. It took 6.9 hours to get to West Bend, and I felt too tired to proceed on to OSH that night. The next morning, off to Oshkosh. Shimmy on the tailwheel landing. Post flight check revealed the tailwheel attach bolt was loose. Tightened same. Enjoyed talking with all the Bearhawk folks; it's nice to have chairs to take a break, too. I left early Tuesday evening as poor weather was forecast the next day - no shimmy on landing. Thanks to Bob, Mark, Eric and all the guys shepparding the Bearhawk out of the parking area. Woke up to heavy rain; waited till 1030 am and saw a break in the storms and took off in the rain. More leakage, the rain makes a popping sound on the boot cowl. 1.5 hours IMC. DIdn't get the mixture lean enough at 8500 ft, and #1 CHT dropped to 200 deg. Leaned it the old-fashioned way and normal temps. On landing in Bartlesville, OK (KBVO), no left brake. It turns out one of the fittings on the left side left brake master cylinder was leaking. Topped off brake fluid and completed the run to my home turf strip without incident. Good trip.
