Brief Description:  Carb Heat Flapper Valve Modification

I was having a hard time even getting a few degrees of carb temp rise during a 1700 RPM runup. The poorly constructed AC Spruce P/N 08-01630 carb air box (now up to $244) doesn't fully seal the inlet air on one edge when the carb heat is fully engaged. There's a 1/4 inch strip along the entire flapper that doesn't engage. I bent a small piece of .032 inch 2024-T3, moved it around so that it allowed full closure of the flapper when carb heat was selected and didn't interfere with normal, non-heated mode. I drilled it, alodined it and riveted it in place. At run up, 10 deg relatively quickly came up, so that's definitely an improvement. Also, the box was welded askew, such that the air filter bracket was chaffing my inlet fairing on once side. I elongated the carb mounting holes slightly so that I could line the filter up.
