Brief Description:  Fuselage Auxiliary Fuel Tank

In the interests of gaining another 20 gallons of auxiliary fuel, I modified a Summit Racing 20 gallon fuel tank by welding a couple bungs on the front of it and using a pair of 1/8 inch NPT elbow barbs and 5/16 Tyco tubing and a Univair float ball to make a sight gauge. I cut a piece of thin-walled aluminum tubing in half longitudinally and used white primer internally on its internal dimension to enhance visualization. I then fabricated a Aeroquip 303-8 hose to bring the fuel from the tank to a Jiffy quick-disconnect fitting. I also TIG-welded an extruded aluminum subframe to elevate the fuel tank on account of the sump, and applied a 1/16 inch neoprene anti-scuff pad using 3M weatherstrip adhesive on the bottom. Finally, I flush-riveted .032 inch doublers using 1/4 inch nutplates on the floorboard so that two fuel tank positions could be used. One fuel tank position is aft of the rear seat with an especially aft C.G. effect and the other is more or less where the rear seat goes, with a correspondingly less aft C.G. effect. I then applied an additional coat of grey deck paint on the floorboards.
