Brief Description:  Dimpled Ribs using new Dimple Dies

Well, after three months of travel, work and school, I'm just getting back in the saddle here. A trip to the airport gave me the motivation to get started again.

Spent the evening trying to figure out how to rivet the L-Bracket at the forward end of the root-rib. I know that I must cut away at the L-Bracket to make room for the shop-end of the rivet, but how to possibly buck something in those tight quarters seemed imposible. I took the rib to lunch with me today and talked to a Joe, who has just completed an RV-9. Simple answer: you don't. Use a pop rivet. It's the root rib anyways and will be covered by a fairing...so....problem solved!

On a separate note, I've been looking into the proper way to dimple lately. If I have one complaint, it's the dished-out, recessed dimples in my empenage kit. I knew that I must be missing something and that turned out to be true. Using the Cleveland Dimple Dies, they're specially constructed to keep the metal straight around the dimple by inducing a counter-bend when the dies are fully squeezed. I think my problem was not realizing the dies are internally spring-loaded, and they should be set to just mate when the squeezer is fully closed. By squeezing with more pressure, not only are you dimpling the rivet location, but you are also counter-bending the metal around it to sit flush. So, in this regard, I went back and dimpled all of the ribs once again. I will try to do the tank skin tonight.
