Brief Description:  Turtledeck construction

A week off from work does wonders for progress. Can I just quit the Army and build airplanes full time?

Up drilled, deburred and riveted the turtledeck skin to the splice channel and reinstalled it on the fuselage. Now it's time for the formers, starting with the most aft, #5. It's hard to appreciate the scale in the photo, but this is a very small space. I had to go in sideways to get my shoulders into the compartment then make a quarter turn to get to the former for drilling. I had to rework some of the flutes to line up with the skin holes. It wasn't pretty but it got the job done.

Next in the process, according to the plans, is to install the #1 formers at the front. I couldn't figure out a good way to hold them in place for drilling so I called Kerry at Sonex. His answer was to hold them by hand and carefully drill. I'm not that skilled, so I clamped them to my 4 foot level and let gravity assist me. It still took some time to drill and to keep them aligned.
