How do you break a vise? Try bending a 3/16" thick piece of 6061 aluminum that is the rudder horn for a Sonex. I guess I'll be going to Lowes/Home Depot/Sears/Harbor Freight tomorrow for a new one.
By the way, the aluminum only bent approximately 2 degrees before the failure. I needed 5.2 degrees.
The 18" bending brake from Harbor Freight wouldn't bend it and now the homemade pole brake has failed. Is 6061 aluminum supposed to be this hard?
Bending this part and the VS forward spar fitting has really slowed progress on the build. At least I did manage to bend the VS spar fitting earlier without breaking anything.
It was an old vise.
