I am going away from the plans on the panel layout. Sonex has the panel angled forward approx 30 degrees. After looking at a lot of other builders' websites and seeing some of the panels at the ASA fly-in, I like the vertical panel and the extra space it can provide.
I've been doing a lot of planning, measuring and designing over the last few weeks and tonight I started turning perfectly good aluminum into aluminum chips.
The panel appears to be structural in terms of it's location and tie in to the fuselage sides, so I wanted to make this as beefy as possible. I chose a piece of 1/8" aluminum angle to be the tie in and the lower cross member for the panel. I spent tonight cutting this piece to fit. Quite a few cuts, but I'm pleased with how it turned out.
