Brief Description:  Right Wing Tip Install

After repairing the rudder I moved on to another item that I had started but never finished because of the move: installing the right wing tip. I got the left one installed before the move but ran out of time on the right.

This one went on even easier than the left probably because of the experience gained. No problems. Up drilled to #30, took it off and sanded and primed it.

I also fixed a major faux paux I made when closing up the right wing. Like everything else on this build, get in a hurry or work too late or too faitgued and you will mess it up. I closed the right wing skin without marking and drilling the right wing tie down. I called Kerry at Sonex for a recommendation on how to correct it. He had no advice to offer on this one. I'm sure he added it to the list of Top Ten Dumb Builder Acts for Sonex.

Anyway, with the aileron access hole in the same bay, I had access to the fitting inside the wing. I made a plug with a centering hole and put my punch into it and carefully marked the hole for drilling. I then found a thin piece of Masonite that would slip between the skin and the spar to act as a backer and keep me from cutting into the spar when opening the hole. Worked like a charm, just a little off center. Cleaned up the hole in the skin and mounted the tiedown.
