Brief Description: Riveted flap fairings to fuselage.
Sean was over to help rivet the flap fairings to the fuselage. We knew that as the rivets were being set from front to back there would be some gathering of the material we just didn't know how much. We got nice tight joints on both sides right up until we the very aft end. This part of the fairing just wouldn't meet the fuselage skin nicely like it did when they were match drilled and clecoed. We couldn't get a solid rivet to behave (we tried several including NAS 1097's) and ended up elongating one of the holes. We finally admitted defeat and used Cherry-Max pull rivets (round heads because we were pretty sure a flush would pull through the bad hole) on the two most aft holes on both sides for symmetry. I'm still thinking about what to do about this, but will likely just extend this fairing with fiberglass to hide the Universal head rivets. Oh well, can’t win them all.
