Finally! A finished VS assembly. I really hate those 1/8 rivets that fasten the ribs to the spars. I had everything lined up nice and tight, with no gap between the rib flanges and the rear spar, on all the ribs. I set the top rib to rear spar rivets first. I put the rivet in the hole, no gap. As soon as the squeezer finished the set, I had a gap! So I drilled it out and reset it. It was a bit better, but nothing to brag about. Same thing on the bottom rib to spar rivets. Everything looking good until I set the first rivet. Then a gap shows up, but not real big. Went to the local hardware store and got some 1/4 inch ID tubing, and some 1/8 ID tubing. I slipped the small tubing inside the larger tubing and cut off a length slightly longer than the rivet tail extended through the hole. Slipped the combined tubing over the rivet tail so that the rivet set would push against the tubing before contacting the rivet and push the rib flange and spar together as it set the rivet. Seemed to work pretty well. The remaining skin to spar and rib rivets set without a lot of fuss. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the result. I hope I still feel that way after it gets inspected.
