Brief Description:  HS

Joe Williams, the local AI, was kind enough to look at the nose ribs to skin rivets for the left side HS and said it looked OK. He also looked at the VS and OK'd it also. So I test fit the HS front spar in the LH HS skin to kind of get an idea of what I needed to be thinking about. The countersunk rivets in the center of the spars/doubler ass'y evidently didn't get c'sunk quite enough because I could feel them protruding just a smidgeon, so I used the rivet shaver to get them level with the spar ass'y. I used a feeler guage to check how much they were protruding and called Vans to see whether I could shave them or if I had to replace them. Got the OK from Gus to shave them. See image 2 for a look at the area. Clecoed the number 2,4,7,and 9 (from left to right) main ribs to the spar ass'y. These get riveted to the spar before installing the spar in the skin. Found that I must have missed squaring the flanges of the #7 rib so corrected that oversight. Spent some time trying to figure out the best way to secure the spar ass'y for riveting the ribs to the spar. Wound up using the vise. See images 1 and 3. I'll begin riveting next session, and intend to use the squeezer on the rib to spar rivets, even though my performance setting 1/8th inch rivets with the squeezer has thus far been less than stellar.
