Brief Description:  Rivet firewall, done!

Came back down to the basement after dinner and riveted all of the firewall parts together. Overall it went smooth. It's been several months since I have worked on the plane but I shot all of the rivets without messing any up. Oh, except one in the corners because I can't read the plans. It called out for a longer rivet and I didn't see the callout. When I put the first one in and smashed it flat I knew it was wrong. I went for a longer rivet and did the next two corners without trouble. THEN I saw the callout on the plans, I was using the correct rivet size. I must be getting the hang of this when I can look at how much tail should be hanging out the end and pick the correct rivet lenght.

I also missed the fuel pump doubler nutplate rivets. The flush side is suppose to be on the inside. Don't dimple the firewall stainless for the nutplates! It was too late to try and fix it so I just put the rivets in backwards. When I go to mount the fuel pump I will have to deal with the rivet tails in the way. Maybe I can drill holes in the fuel pump base to clear the rivet tails.

The first step is done!!
