Brief Description:  Recheck wings and mark rear spar

CAP night again and this time Paul Branson and Harry Robinson stayed late to re-measure the wings.

During the last two weeks I consulted with another senior member, Rich Conley. Rich is a Delta mechanic. I know this is not a 737 or an Airbus but the experienced set of eyes and another brain being involved couldn’t hurt. We discussed the pros and cons of trying to move the wings into the perfect position. Vans said there was no tolerance in their directions or would not give any tolerance variances. Rich and I decided that overall the wings were in a good position without adding any stresses to the structure. I decided to think about it for another week.

So, to the present. If I were to file the spar to try and get more sweep I would need to know how much to trim. We really need to know where to holes need to go to maintain the edge distance. This was the one thing Vans did stress several times. After the re-measure, the wings were in the same position as the previous two weeks. I measured the edge distance and created a box that would allow a drill bit to be started within and the edge would be within spec. There is not a lot room for trimming the spar. Each wing would need to be pulled rearward 1/4" to make the sweep correct and that would completely erase the box. Time to think again.
