Brief Description: Rivet firewall

Once again over the last few days I have worked every moment I could. The Olympics kinda got in the way. I don't normally watch this much television but I really like the winter Olympics. Bobsled, 2-man, 3-man, 4-man, skeleton, and luge are my favorite. Must be the speed I like, 90mph inches off the ice, gravity and precision, what a rush it must be.
Back to the project. Rivets each night, maybe only a few, but I keep plodding along. Each rivet completed is one less to do and one more done. As I got ready to rivet the firewall I remembered something about firewall sealer. Sounded like a good idea to me. Anything that could slow a fire down before it got into the cockpit must be a good thing. After the previous fun with Pro-Seal (see fuel tank building notes) I could not get enthusiastic about using anything similar to seal the firewall. After some research, Spruce sells a 3M product called Fire Barrier 2000. It is a silicone product like RTV, comes in a caulk tube, easy to use and looks like it provides good fire resistance. I put a bead between the skins and firewall, colecoed each hole and left it for a couple of hours to cure. Then I went out and squeezed all of the firewall rivets. I wanted to make sure I didn't let the silicone set up between the skins. The rivets squished out any extra so there is good contact between the skin and firewall. I really did that last night so tonight I checked out my handy work and it all looks good. I will also put a layer around the perimeter of the firewall later.
