Brief Description:  Rivet reinforcements to spar, rivet elev. horn, ri

Just couldn't work on this thing Monday. Bummed out over how can I hold the skins apart to rivet.
Rita's cousin Jack LaBolt was in town on Tuesday and I did a 'show and tell' with him. Thats him cleaning ear wax with my debur screwdriver. Must work good because he is smiling. Jack is a good guy he lives in Chicago and we don't hold that against him. I think he was really smiling because it was 55 degrees here today.

Wednsday I mocked up my 'tool' for holding the skins apart. I colecoed a 1x4 to the back side of the top skin. A 2x4 placed between the colecos on the bottom skin adds weight and the stop for the braces. I had made strips for the stiffiners on the rudder to back rivet them to the skins so I redrilled them to match the stiffiners on the elevator. These strips are colecoed on the face of the skin along with each stiffiner. The back rivet plate is the same hieght as the strips. To back rivet I remove only one strip, slide the plate underneath then I can back rivet and the whole mess stays on a level plane. It all works good, I can pick up the whole thing and rotate it on the bench to make any accesability better. Quick, easy, cheap, and effective.

Thursday I set this up and riveted the elevator horn to the spar. Riveted the counterbalance ribs together and the counterbalance skin to the ribs. Riveted the spar to the skin. The tool worked as designed! Vans suggested to back rivet the siffiners before the spar but I will do it after I get all the rivets in the spar. I need the colecos to hold the tool in place. The rivets at the trailing edge I can do last without using the tool to hold it open.
