The last few days have been busy. Saturday my friend Steve Ashby and I inspected a wrecked Cirrus SR22, with an eye towards acquiring the engine, propeller and any other item that might be helpful. Yesterday I made a vacuum formed panel to construct a cover for the brake lines, etc., in the rear passenger footwell area.

Today I got some help from Bill Hayllar to make a couple of thrust washers for the flap torque tube. The manual calls for a small piece of Delrin tube to be pop riveted to the torque tube to prevent side to side movement of the tube, thus the pivot arms. Well, that seemed like a not-so-great way to deal with that issue. It's probably a low stress issue, but I figured that there was a better way. So I got two shaft collars to go on the torque tube, and a comparable diameter piece of Delrin to make thrust washers from. Bill helped with the lathe work, and in no time at all I had two thrust washers to go between the collars and the beariing blocks. This solution solves a couple of issues: First it eliminates the need to drill into the tube. Probably not a real structural issue, but why drill out perfectly good steel. Next, once the called-for pop rivets are installed, you have to drill them out to remove the tubes. Probably not a big problem, but why, if there is an alternative? The downside is weight. The net difference is three ounces. I realize that every ounce counts, but this one makes sense to me.
