Brief Description:

Spent the first two hours today finishing stripping the peel-ply from the upper fuselage. What a pain. After that I adjusted the sternpost slightly to get it aligned with the fuselage center line, then temporarily fixed it with three machine screws. Next I temporarily mounted the right VS skin, and measured from the top of the VS to dimple indicating the position of WL22. The measurement was perfect, according to the manual. Not satisfied, however, I clamped the right side of the rudder in place, just to make sure that the top and bottom of the rudder lined up with the top and bottom of the VS. At this stage, it's not possible to get a perfect measurement, but it lined up very well, so I'm satisfied that my location of the VS, vertically, is ok. The rest of the time today I mounted the left VS skin and the fuselage top, and proceeded to fit, adjust and cleco the fuselage halves to each other and to the VS. In addition to making sure that all critical joggles met appropriately, I wanted to minimize the pulling and tugging necessary to achieve final assembly. No need to build in stresses.
