Brief Description:

Progress on the flap. This week I finished all the flap structure, including the ribs and spar. Todayl I formed the capstrips, and they are curing tonight. All that is good news.

The bad news is that I discovered that I missed a step in both ailerons. It's ultimately my fault, but there is a step missing in the manual. That step is trimming the trailing edge of the aileron to the specified chord length. I know that seems intuitive. Anyway, I finally figured it out. I was able to trim the right aileron to the proper chord length, with just a hair over a 1/4 inch thick trailing edge. It does look just fine. But the left aileron is another matter. If I trim it to the proper chord length, the trailing edge is much too thick. So it has to come apart. The lower skin had to be sacrificed to get the aileron apart. And I'm not too sure how the upper skin will be when the process is complete. The good news is that the aileron was a real bear to take apart, so I feel pretty good about my epoxy skills.
