Brief Description:

Today I reinforced the outboard flap rib, and hurried the cure with a hot air gun, blowing into a cardboard box over the rib. I've done this before, careful to leave the gun on a non-flamable surface, and far enough away from the box so it didn't get too hot. After about an hour, it was cured enough to trim the excess with a razor. After that, I trimmed up the reinforcement on the remaining ribs.
Tonight I drilled the mounting holes for the flap hinges, and mocked up for fit. One thing I found out was that the hinge ribs, after bonding in the phenolic, and reinforcing with 4 bid left a width about .10 wider than the rod end, which would, as with the actuator, required deflecting the hinge halves to fit. Two light washers, one on either side of the rod end, got things very close, able to be closed with very little deflection.
When attached, the flap moved very freely through almost the entire range. Toward the outboard end, though, there is a small bit of interference, not sure just where yet, but it results in the trailing edge of the flap not to quite line up with the aileron at the neutral position. I'll work on that tomorrow, then with begin attaching the nutplates to the hinge plates.
