Brief Description:

It's been busy since wing close-out last weekend. Just not a whole lot of photogenic interest to report. One of my helpers last weekend applied some Jeffco 1307 on top of the Hysol skim coat. Ughhh. To make a long and sleepless story shorter, Lancair suggested testing the wing tanks to 3 p.s.i. rather than the 1/2 p.s.i. normally used. So that's what I did. It took a bit of time to get all five holes in the fuel bays not to leak. When I got all that done, I left the 3 p.s.i. in the bays for about 36 hours, with absolutely not drop in pressure. That tells me that not only was the closing tight, but structurally sound.

After all that, I've begun the final fitting of the left aileron, together with preliminary gap fixing. This is no easy task, in no small part due to the bowing of the wing skins at their tailing edges. Those have to be straightened with heat, which is much more difficult than it appears in the manual. A lot of fitting, disassembling, fitting again, and over and over again.

Also, I've begun making the forms for casting the aileron counterweights, and ensuring that I have the specified range of movement of the aileron.
