Sometimes it seems like the simplest tasks can take forever. This evening I decided to place the fuel pickup mounting block in place. This is realy no big deal. But it seemed that every time I needed something, it was either across the room, or in my garage. In any event, I did get the brass mounting block microed in, and will reinforce with 3 bid tomorrow.
I also finally figured out that there is a mod for extended fuel capacity that I didn't know about before I finished the fuel bays. Lancair confirms this, and hopefully I'll learn more about that soon. That would increase fuel capacity from 75 to over 90 gallons. At 13.5-15 gallons per hour for the IO-550, that means increasing the range from five to six hours, or from four to five hours with IFR reserves. While I'm not thrilled of the prospect of spending over $500.00 to top off the tanks, that extra hour might come in handy. It's a decision I'll make after I see the method suggested for adding the extra capacity.
