Brief Description:

Today I was able to complete the remainder of the forward and middle ribs, and got two of the aft ribs pretty well fitted in. The manual states clearly that after fitting the ribs the upper (really lower) cradles should fit with little or no clamping pressure. But that's just not how it really is. In fact, even without any ribs in place, the BL 81 rib has to be clamped down for the last half inch or so, and it does take some pressure. The only alternative would be to modify the cradles, but that doesn't make much sense, as the cradles define the airfoil, and I'm not messting with the design. So I'm making sure that the skins fit the cradles, even if it does take some clamping pressure. I'm hoping that twenty years or so of sitting in the shipping box has mildly distorted the skins.

There's also a bit of a mismatch between the upper and lower skins at the leading edge. The sking meet at the joggle, on the outside at least, but they diverge inside the wing. Because of the reinforcing piece placed in the upper skin leading edge just aft of the electrical conduit, what remains of the upper skin joggle is quite rigid. I'm thinking of placing a flox release in this area, to have a good bonding area when the time comes to mate the two wing halves together.
