Brief Description:  Elevator gaps

Well, I'm pretty well satisfied now with the elevator gaps. My friend Steve Ashby told me today that I should include more photos of myself in this log. Why I'm not sure, but I decided to humor him. Anyway, the below images show how I sanded the gaps. After a rough sand with a block, I used a 40 grit sanding disc, and inserted it as best as I could into the gap, then sanded along the length of the elevator, while a the same time rotating the elevator throughout its range of up and down travel. This prevents flat spots, and contours the leading edge of the elevator nicely. It turns out that this process leaves a gap of just a bit over .050 inch. Image 3 below shows a #55 drill bit which has a diameter of .052 inch. Now I can't say that the gaps are all exactly .052, but they really do look pretty good.

After sanding the elevators and counterweight horns today, I also placed micro on the trailing edge joggle, and will sand this flat tomorrow.
