Sanded yesterday's micro on the hstab, then fitted the elevators to check for fit. I didn't anticipate perfection, and didn't achieve it either. But it's getting a lot closer. Per supplemental spec, I'm closing in at 1/4 inch gap on the counterbalance horns, with the exception of the left elevator, where the front of the horn meets the hstab, where the gap was only about 1/8 inch, even after sanding away the micro. So I had to remove the aft face of the hstab outer spar closeout. I filled this with micro, and tomorrow will reinforce with 2 bid.
I don't think that there is any way to rush the gap creation process. To do it right requires, at least for me, several steps of adding micro, rough sanding, checking gaps, and repeating the process until it's right.
