Brief Description:

After popping off the upper elevator skins, I determined that for a significant portion of the area between BL 36 and 73, the spar intesects the upper skin at the transition between the nomex reinforcement and the upper skin. There are two possible solutions at this point. First, I can backtrack, and remove some of the nomex from the upper skin, so that the intersection with the spar is flat. This option requires providing additional width to the spars, a daunting task. The other solution is to extend the area of the nomex forward, so that the spars intersect at a flat surface. I chose door number two, and today added some flox to the upper skins. just forward of the nomex reinforcement, as shown in the image below. Tomorrow I'll have to take off the prior installed micro from a couple of days ago, and do the fitting again. Also, I do know that adding flox in the area shown will add weight. The weight will add to the overall aircraft weight, but since it is very close to the hinge line, more counterweight will be minimal, at the worst.

I lef the inboard portiions of the elevator skins as they were, for the prior fittment in these areas were ok, and will provide good areas for bonding the capstrips.
