Brief Description:  Getting ready for elevator assembly

I'm getting ready to assemble the lower and upper elevator skins. To do this requires that the assembled elevator halves be mounted to the horizontal stabilizer during the cure process, so that the hinges align after assembly. This reqires some planning. First, the manual suggests fabricating a couple of hinge aligning tools from 1/4 inch bolts. That's ok, I guess, but I figured that I could improve on that, so I flattened the ends of two pieces of 1/4 inch rod, and welded another piece of 1/4 inch rod to the flattened end, as shown in the first photo below. They work great.
Next, I had to enlarge the acces slots adjacent to the elevator hinges to allow the alignment tools, and ultimately the attaching bolts, to reach the hinges when the elevator halves are in position for mounting.
Finally, one bolt that attaches the elevator horn to the inboard rib is accessed from the leading edge of the elevator, and needs an access hole for a socket wrench. That's shown in the third photo below.
