Brief Description:  Fitting upper elevator skin

Today I continued fitting the upper elevator skin to the spar and the TE of the horizontal stabilizer. The main goal today was to trim the elevator spar sufficiently to allow the upper skin to be even with the trailing edge of the Hstab, as shown in the manual. (See image 2 below.) I did this by placing blue tape along the TE of the Hstab, and checking the difference in height between the elevator and the TE of the Hstab. I recorded the various measurements on the tape, then removed the upper elevator skins. Next I scribed a line along the elevator spar corresponding to the measurements, then sanded down to the line. I had to repeat this process several times in order to achieve the desired results. After about three hours of work, I did get the elevator even along its entire length with the TE of the Hstab. During the process, I also evened the counterbalance horns with the Hstab.

Later, I began to tackle the rib issue. As indicated earlier, the rib patterns on the plans do not fit, not even close. I'm still exchanging emails with Lancair over this. But I'm pretty well resigned now to the fact that I will have to make my own patterns. Started with BL20, and did get that rib to fit both the bottom and top elevator skins. But I did notice that the elevator TE is about one inch aft of the line indicated as the TE of the elevator on the cradle patterns. Am I supposed to trim the TE of the elevator to this line? If so, It doesn't say so anywhere in the plans or manual. A bit frustrating.
