Brief Description:  Riveting servo inspection plate and molding weight

I spent a good deal of time today preparing the sand cast material for forming the elevator weight molds. For my first time trying such, it seems to have worked out pretty well. The molding sand is a mixture of sand and bentonite clay, otherwise known as ground up kitty litter. Please don't ask about the condition of our food processor. Anyway, I built a frame, mixed the sand/clay material, and put it all together. The result is shown in image 1 below. It's not perfect, but is ample to cast sufficient lead in the proper shape to balance the elevators. Hopefully this week I'll be able to cast the lead, with no small measure of help from my friend Bill Hayllar, who can do anything.

Also today I enlisted the help of another friend who is building an immaculate RV8, to help with some problematic rivets on the trim servo inspection panel. Jeremy Hull was graciously willing to help, and had the appropriate riveting tools to do the job that my limited tools just couldn't accomplish. So now I can form the capstrips on the left elevator, and after the weights are cast, I can close the elevators, progressing from that to the rudder, then the wings. I've learned a lot on the elevators, but frankly am ready for the next stage.
