Brief Description:

Seems like forever since I logged progress. It also seems like, in the past two weeks, I've made very little progress, hence the dearth of notes and pictures. I'm at the point where I have to begin populating the instrument panel. But first, I have to finalize what it will look like. The kit I have apparently has one of the first iteration of a panel. It has multiple places for aluminum inserts, angled spaces, etc. Some of these things will work, and some will not. So my job now is to figure out how to make a panel to meet today's avionics. I've actually been planning, thinking and finally modifying the existing fiberglass panel. This and the next two logs are compilations of the last two weeks. First modification was to the engine control area. The supplied panel has a mounting box for the throttle, mixture and prop controls. This protrudes about three inches below the panel, and is integral to the panel itself. More modern panels have this "box" set higher. So that's what I decided to do. That requires cutting out the existing box, fabricating a new box, and mounting the new box securely in the panel.
