I've known for some time that a main bus is required, but there really is no guidance regarding number of lugs needed. Still don't know how many components of the panel I will have, nor how many of them need their own power. Space is also a concern. So I'm guessing. Not wanting to shell out the big bucks, I decided to make my own bus. I used 1/8 inch thick copper, and set press-fit lugs, coming up with fifteen spots, but knowing that its probably not enough, I made two identical bus bars. Both will connect to the battery lead, then exit through the firewall to the starter contactor and ammeter B-leads. I'm not through with the fabrication, though, in part because I ran out of the studs. Now I've got to decide whether it's worth the effort to add another, avionics bus.
