Brief Description:

Today Brad checked the straightness of my work. First we leveled the fuselage fore to aft and left to right. Then Brad placed multiple marks on the wings, flaps and ailerons, corresponding to each other from side to side. There were differences, of course, but the max was one half inch from wing tip to wing tip. All others were less, and some were right on. I'd rather have the two sides exactly symmetrical, but I can live with what I have. We also checked wing incidence, which is supposed to be two degrees. I wa off by one tenth of a degree, which is fine with me.

Also today Steve spent some time rebuilding one wing cradle, which did not survive the trip up. He also reinforced the remaining cradles, so that chances of a repeat failure are minimized.

We also spent some time making sure that the trailing edges of the flaps, ailerons and wing tips were in a straight line when in trail. The main problem area was on the right wing tip. Here the tip was high, and the aileron was low. What Brad suggested, and what we did, was to split the end of the wing tip then take out a wedge of it, and to detatch about two inches of the wingtip flange, so that when all were put back together the wing tip and aileron were in line. This did not fix the low aileron problem, so that's not perfect. But the real fix would be to totally rebuild the aileron. With new aileron skins unavailable, that's just not in the cards, so I'll have to live with that problem.
