Brief Description:

I hate making inspection holes and covers. Especially when the plans call for something that can't be done. This is the case with the aileron bellcrank inspection hole. The problem is that the bellcrank is between the BL 138 and the BL 145 ribs. If built according to the manual, there is just not enough room between the capstrips. Last year, with the same problem on the left wing, Lancair suggested just using about 1/2 inch of the capstrips to mount the nutplates. That works fine, but requires making a full thickness panel from the wing skin. So tonight I cut out the wing skin, and filled the margins of the hole with flox, then weighed the whole thing down to make sure no changes occur during the cure. Also, I filled the ends of the aileron with foam and 2 bid per manual.
