Brief Description:

The last two days I've continued to refine the gap on the aileron, and flatening the trailing edge of the wing. It's a process. Today I've got both to a reasonably satisfactory condition. Not perfect, by any means, but perfection is an elusive goal. Chasing that goal is a time consuming process.

Today, after more sanding on the aileron and wing, I began the aileron balancing task. The trick is getting enough lead on the front of the elevator, while still allowing appropriate aileron travel. The two later model aileron weights from Lancair are enough to balance the elevator, and then some. After determining that, I removed the outboard weight, and attached the elevator to the wing. With some judicious hammering, I was able to get the 13 degree down and 20 degree up travel. Tomorrow I'll work on the outboard weight. This will be more difficult, because the tab on the front of the aileron had to be trimmed to a taper, so will not allow as wide a weight. That will mean trimming the front of the weight, and adding additional lead to the unused areas of the tab. No doubt this will take some time.
