Yesterday was a bit of a frustrating day. Not unique, though. I tried a first attempt at balancing the left aileron. To do so, I mocked up the weights with wood, then made up a casting box, filled with casting sand, etc. The lead casting went ok, but the result turned out too thick, so I cut down the wood positive molds, and tried again. This was too little to balance, so I tried casting a thin add-on piece, which was enough to balance, but was too irregular to fit.
So then I looked again at all internet material readily available, and went back to the drawing board. After all that, I'm going to build a different shape for the weight, cast it, and see what happens.
