Brief Description:

Last night a fellow builder, Dave Rowe, came over to take a look at my progress. I met Dave throught the EAA technical counselor program. Dave had some really good insights, and constructive criticism. He pointed out something I should have known. My attempt to make the main spar flox buildup nice and smooth with micro is a no-no. He suggested that I contact Lancair, but I think he was being generous. I decided to sand off all the micro, which was filllng minor voids and irregularities. So I sanded all the micro off, and did a flox release. After sanding a prepping, I applied the flox as if it were the final close-out. Tomorrow I'll remove the lower skin and take a look. This took all morning, but it was worth it. As I told Dave last night, never hesitate to take a step back. More time, of course, but if it's not right, it's not right.

Also, in preparation for the ultimate close-out, I'm spending no small amount of time making and filling sandbags. Only real problem is that we had two snow events in Atlanta this month, and the play sand is gone from the shelves. What I've done is make draw-string bags from whatever fabric I can find, and use plastic garbage bags as a liner. A bag about half again the size of a shot bag only weighs about fifteen pounds. Not much.
