Brief Description:

Not much progress per se today, but time well spent. I started out mounting a rod end on 1/2 inch stainless rod. I had done one earlier, but wasn't happy with the rivet set, because I put a smiley face on the rod when bucking one of the rivets. It probably would not have made any difference, but I'm just not going to allow mistakes like that go. So I scrapped that rod end and started over. But this process requires drilling the tube and rod end in two places, 90 degrees apart, which requires drilling tubing. I didn't have a V-block for drilling tubing, so I spent some time tonight making a very simple V-block out of some angle iron. All I did was cut out three equal lengths of angle iron and weld them together. The end product can be held in a drill press vice, and provides a very stable surface for drilling tubing. Later, if I really get inspired, I may mount a clamping device on my creation, but for now, it works great.
